EM@THON


Aim

Emergency Medicine Association of Turkey (EMAT) aims to break new ground in the field of Emergency Medicine; by using information technologies with the information technologies design event in Emergency Medicine "EM@THON", which aims to bring together EM residents, specialists, and informatics professionals working in the field of Emergency Medicine. EM@THON aims to develop project ideas in a limited time to accelerate and increase the accuracy of triage, patient management, diagnosis, treatment, and decision processes in emergency medicine.

Process

  1. Log in via www.eacem.org and complete your application by October 23, 2023
    * The call will be open in October for 2 weeks. (The deadline for participation may be extended depending on the number of applications.)
  2. Pass the jury's preliminary evaluation and join one of the teams

General principles

  1. Teams will be determined randomly by the organizing committee.
  2. Each team can participate in the marathon on a single topic.
  3. The selected topic cannot be changed while the marathon is ongoing.
  4. After completing the 36-hour marathon at the congress, all teams will have the chance to present their projects in front of the jury members and participants. (*5-minute presentations will be made in English by a member of the team.)
  5. Awards will be given at the congress gala after the evaluation by the jury. (Awards will be announced at a later date.)

Teams

  • Each team will consist of 5 people.
  • Each team will have at least one EM specialist or EM Resident.
  • At least one software specialist/system engineer in each team will monitor the process accurately and provide technical consultancy for the marathon.

  1. What should I do to participate in EM@THON?
    Register through the EACEM website(https://www.eacem.org/en/emathon.html). Complete your registration process with the email you receive.
  2. Will the teams be in one hall throughout the congress? Will we miss the other sessions in the congress?
    No, teams can work freely anywhere and anytime😊 during the congress, except for EM@THON's short seminars (15-20 mins).
  3. Can we use ChatGPT?
    - Yes 😊, you can use large language models provided you mention them in your presentation.
  4. Is presenting in English mandatory?
    - Yes, but teams can get support regarding presenting in English😊
  5. Is it necessary to know programming?
    No 😊, the aim at EM@THON is not to measure the level of knowledge in information technologies but to present solutions that information technologies can offer for problems in emergency medicine. Having an expert in the field of IT in each team contributes to the multidisciplinary development of solutions to problems in emergency medicine.
  6. I have a team; can we participate together?
    Yes, you can join with your team, but each participant needs to fill out the registration form and register.
  7. I don't have a project; can I still participate?
    Yes, participants can join teams, generate new project ideas, and develop solutions together.
  8. I have a project; can I participate?
    Yes, you can join EM@THON with your project. You can bring your project to life with either your own team or the team formed when the event starts.

  10. I'm not an emergency medicine specialist, but I have an idea in the field of emergency medicine; can I participate?
